Musée des Beaux-Arts – Lyon

A former Benedictine monastery, the Palais Saint-Pierre, was chosen as its seat and became state property following the demanialization of ecclesiastical properties during the French Revolution: some areas of the museum still preserve the original decoration, such as the baroque refectory or the chapel.

In 1803, the museum officially opened its doors to the public and today preserves one of the most important collections in France, with works of painting, sculpture, ancient art (Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Etruscan and Oriental), objects of art, medals and coins, drawings and prints.
