Musée des Beaux-Arts – Rouen
Founded in 1801 at the behest of Napoleon Bonaparte, the Musée des Beaux Arts preserves a large collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures that well represent the main artistic schools of all Europe and cover a period from the Renaissance to the present day; a rare collection of Russian icons from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, as well as a rich collection of impressionist works, are worthy of particular value.
The current building of the museum, in neoclassical style, was built between 1877 and 1888 to a design by the architect Louis Sauvegeot.
