Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi – Città della Pieve
The first records of the Oratory of Santa Maria dei Bianchi date back to the thirteenth century; the place originally housed the Brotherhood of Disciplinati, also named “Bianchi” (Whites) for the color of their habit: the Bianchi indeed got a donation to build their seat and a hospital dedicated to the poors and pilgrims.
The entire complex appears today as a Neoclassic building in Rococò style, due to the restorations that the complex underwent during eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The Oratorio dei Bianchi is now a big squared hall covered by ribbed vaults, and preserves one of Perugino’s masterpieces depicting the Adoration of Magi (1504).
Flanking the altar, two small passages allow the entrance to the church, which dates back to the eighteenth century.
