Trevi
The City of Trevi, one of the most vibrant municipalities of Umbria, is located on the extreme offshoot of Mount Serano and is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Trevi is known as the “capital of oil”: it is indeed famous for the production of extra virgin olive oil – an oil known and appreciated everywhere for its properties, that is, an intense aroma, a bitter and spicy taste, a particular color between green and yellow. This prestigious product is also celebrated with the Museum of the Civilization of the Olive, located in the former convent of San Francesco.
Around the area of the historic center, Trevi preserves the “scattered olive houses”, rural settlements dating back to 1400-1500 that testify the olive culture and the history of the place, carried on by both peasants and noble families. Outside the village, lovely churches built between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries are also still preserved.
Among the main monuments of interest in the historic center of the city, the Cathedral of Sant’Emiliano, dating back to the twelfth century, is dedicated to the patron saint of Trevi, Saint Emiliano, whose name was also given to the oldest Italian olive tree, of approximately 1700 years, preserved in Trevi. The city of Trevi includes many other wonderful places, such as Villa Fabri, a splendid noble residence overlooking the Spoleto valley with its gardens, the small Clitunno Theatre, the San Francesco Museum Complex, as well as the main squares, the architecture of the palaces, churches and paintings that still retain a medieval aspect and tell the ancient history of the city.
Trevi is also open to contemporary art: it hosts the Lucarini Contemporary Palace Association that, in the homonymous building and in some other places of the city, organizes exhibitions of local and national authors.
