Virgin enthroned between Saint Biagio and Saint Catherine of Alexandria – Spello
The work is realized by Perugino inside the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, in Spello, in the chapel next to the main altar, along with the Piety placed in the specular room; both frescoes, still on site, are commissioned to the painter in 1521, and Perugino finished both of them in less than three months.
The Virgin, seated on a wooden throne, holds the Child in her arms, flanked by Saint Biagio, characterized by the unmistakable attribute of the studded comb with which he was tortured, and Saint Catherine, who holds the palm of martyrdom in her right hand.
The painting is preserved at the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Spello.
