Arte sotto le stelle 2022 – Città della Pieve

In the spectacular setting of Piazza Antonio Gramsci, next to the Cathedral, where some remarkable works by Vannucci are preserved, and in front of the noble Palazzo della Corgna, Perugino will relive the peak of its success: the papal assignment to realize the great frescoes in the Sistine Chapel, in Vatican City, the most illustrious commission that will open the doors for other prestigious works.

This particular moment determines the artistic identity of Pietro Vannucci who, as a talented painter, from now on will be officially recognized as “the Perugino”, famous and admired master, inspiration and guide for many of the artists of that century.

Among the pictorial panels depicting Stories of the Old Testament and the Life of Christ, executed by the so-called “quattrocentisti” under Perugino’s leadership, only three of the five scenes realized by Perugino are still visible on site, as the other two, placed on the wall behind the altar, were covered by Michelangelo with the realization of the great Last Judgment; the reflection, dedicated to the three surviving frescoes of Vannucci, will consideral several aspects, in constant dialogue with each other: the historical-artistic, the theological and the iconographic levels.

The analysis of these three works, presented through the innovative Format “Art under the stars”, will appear so full of nuances, stories, unexpected details, thanks to the wise words of three experts curators in their respective fields of intervention.
