A videomapping dedicated to Perugino lights up the bell tower of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Corciano

A video projection representing the Virgin painted in 1513 by Pietro Vannucci, known as Perugino, can be seen on the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria Assunta from June, 24th. The project aims to further enhance the painting, still complete with two predella tables, which, unlike many other wooden tables realized by the painter, has never been transferred to a museum, but is still preserved in the place of worship for which it was designed and produced.

“Thanks to the support of the Fondazione Perugia, which financed part of the project ‘Perugino in Corciano: the Pala dell’Assunta, stories of art and local devotion’, presented by the Municipal Offices as part of the Art Call 2023, the celebrations dedicated to the Master will develop into a series of integrated initiatives, ranging from history, culture, sport, food and wine, offering a wide range of reasons to visit our village”, says the Councillor for Culture Francesco Mangano.

But it is only the first of the initiatives that the Municipality of Corciano has planned to celebrate the Divine Painter during the summer.

The Councillor continues: “During Corciano Festival – August in Corciano, scheduled from 5 to 15 August, the restaurant Taverna del Duca will propose, as part of its medieval dinners, a curious dish themed ‘Perugino’ every night. In addition, excursions on the so-called ‘Paths of Perugino’ will be organized, and they will end in Corciano, crossing much of the rural landscape of our territory, with a stop also in the villages of San Mariano and Solomeo. Moreover, on the evening of August 10, during an immersive conference accompanied by live music, art historians and history experts will present the Pala dell’Assunta, together with the artistic details and the context in which it was realized; besides, the contract dating back to 18 December 1512 by which the assignment of realizing the table was assigned to Perugino granting him a sum of 100 florins will also be digitalized and shown in 3D for the first time.”
