The tablet, of uncertain attribution, could belong to the predella of the Polyptych of the Certosa, executed by Perugino in 1499; the compositional scheme, in fact, showing the Virgin in prayer, Saint Joseph kneeling, the Child lying on a cloth and, in the background, a simple wooden architecture that frames a peaceful countryside landscape, is quite similar to other works such as the
Polyptych of Sant’Agostino or the
Nativity at the
Art Institute of Chicago.
