The Popes Anterus and Fabian – Sistine Chapel – Vatican City
The two frescos are part of the twenty-eight popes painted in false niches; among these Popes, Anterus and Fabian were probably realized by Perugino, for the vigorous design and a strong physiognomic characterization.
The representation, which omits the first two popes Saint Peter the Apostle and Saint Lino of Tuscia, starts from Anacleto Athenian, the first of the right wall towards the altar, up to Marcellus Roman, at the center of the counter-facade, to the right, in an almost entirely chronological sequence.
The works are preserved at the Sistine Chapel, inside the Vatican Museums in Vatican City.
